The Penguin: A Different Take on Gotham City
TV Series: The Penguin is a new HBO Max series that proffers a different take on Gotham City. In contrast to Matt Reeves’ Batman movies, The Penguin focuses on the city’s grit and crime. It follows the rise of Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, played by Colin Farrell. This new series guarantees an extraordinary and exciting journey through Gotham City devoid of Batman.
No Batman in ‘The Penguin’? Looks like we’ll get to see Gotham’s underbelly from a whole new angle. Can’t wait to see what Oz brings to the streets!
Not surprised. The way ‘The Penguin‘ has been marketed definitely makes it feel like its own self-contained story. I am never watching The Penguin just to see if Batman or Bruce Wayne would make an appearance. It would’ve been cool, but the show will still be great without it.
I thought for sure he would make an appearance. I’m still looking forward to seeing how the 2nd Batman movie of this particular iteration winds up, though! Should be entertaining.
The smallest of appearances would really help tie things back together, but Penguin did feel pretty detached from a lot of the film; I don’t think it messes things up not having Batman involved. I got to see the sneak peek when I went to rewatch The Batman. People should be patient because it’s looking like it’s going to be great.
The Penguin: A Different Take on Gotham City
Interesting move to keep Batman out of ‘The Penguin.’ No Robert Pattinson, no problem! ‘The Penguin’ is giving us a gritty, street-level view of Gotham. This could be the perfect way to dive deeper into Oz’s world. Focusing on the city’s streets might give us a fresh perspective on Gotham’s crime underworld.
It’s about Penguin’s rise to power. Batman would definitely have thrown a few wrenches into the gears if he was involved. I care for Penguin (Oswald Cobblepot) and what he got going on. It’s like watching Venom films and waiting for Peter to appear, nope. I don’t care for Peter at this moment.
At least there’s confirmation now that Batman won’t appear, and I guess this is to help set expectations before watching. I really hope Penguin turns out to be good.
It would be pretty cool that every once in a while, Batman is hidden in the background watching. Especially given that view on Batman. They’ll cross paths at some point. Inevitable. The screen time they shared was so mesmerizing. But they might reserve that for the sequel.
