The Electric State takes place after robots revolt in a different 1990s America. It follows a teen without parents who travels across the Western US. She’s joined by a robot that looks like it’s from a cartoon, a person who moves goods illegally, and his helper. They’re looking for her little brother.
Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, and Woody Norman star in the movie. Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci are also in it. Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo, and Alan Tudyk lend their voices to the characters. The Electric State comes out worldwide on Netflix on March 14.
The teaser totally lost the pastel tones of the original book that made Stalenhag’s designs so captivating. For those of you who don’t know, this was based on Simon Stålenhag‘s illustrations. Same goes for the Tales from the Loop book.

The Electric State Movie | Teaser Review
It looks like it’s going to do what lots of adaptations do now, where the aesthetics are good, but the message is muddled or ignored. It looks like they’re going for a different tone than the book. A bit disappointed, but I’ll still watch it.
It’s been so long since I read the book for free at the book store near us. I was a kid and didn’t have the money to actually buy it, but I really admired the artwork and the dystopian setting with machines in it. I am excited about this movie and hope that it is good. The Russo Brothers have never failed in one movie at all, so I have faith in them!
I’m glad Millie Bobby Brown is in it. I’m a fan. For the record, this is the 3rd project she’s done for Netflix since the release of the previous season of Stranger Things. Chris Pratt’s using his deep voice, still thinking that’ll make him sound like a serious hero. And, so glad that Ke Huy Quan is getting more recognition after Everything Everywhere All At Once, he deserves it!
It is not as serious a tone as the book. I do hope they lean more into the uncanny valley and dread of the books. The Tales from the Loop book is more melancholy; the movie looks like action package. I guess it’s supposed to be.
