Cinema/Movie News: Live-Action Adaptations of “Helldivers” and “Horizon Zero Dawn” on the Horizon. More news is emerging from Sony’s CES 2025 press conference with two more big-name projects lined up.
Sony Pictures will team up with Sony Productions to develop live-action film adaptations of both the “Helldivers” and “Horizon: Zero Dawn” game franchises. Neither film had any additional details shared.
The action RPG “Horizon: Zero Dawn” follows Aloy, a young outcast who sets out to unlock her robot dinosaur-filled world.
The 2024 game “Helldivers 2,” which follows soldiers fighting for the survival of a fascist Super Earth regime, heavily draws on cult classic science fiction movie “Starship Troopers” when battling alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids.

Helldivers movie? Accurate lore, attention to detail, and no funny gimmicks like most video game adaptations—literally just follow in the sonic movie’s footsteps, and this movie will be a hit.
Horizon Zero Dawn has such a rich world and story – I’m thrilled to see how it translates to the big screen. Here’s hoping they capture the essence of Aloy and the mechanical beasts as well as the game did.
It is a very popular franchise. But whoever they pick for a Director, please pick one that likes the game. Or is willing to play the game before shooting. Unless Sony wants to burn more money like with Borderlands.
Overall, I’m so thankful all of my favorite games are getting adaptations in different mediums so many more people can enjoy them. Horizon movie, Ghost of Tsushima anime, and Helldivers movie. So awesome!
Sony’s Until Dawn horror game will be made into a film. This one will follow new characters and settings in the same world as the games.
