Reeves Teases Robert Pattinson’s DCU Future: “It Depends…”
Cinema: American filmmaker Matt Reeves says the possibility of Robert Pattinson’s Batman joining the DCU “really comes down to whether or not it makes sense”.
“What the future brings, I can’t really tell you… we’ll have to see where that goes.”
Reading between the lines here, Reeves wants his Batman to stay independent unless Gunn comes up with something too good to pass up.

I really hope this happens. Having two Batman would unnecessarily confuse the general audience. You can still have the grounded, dark stories in The Batman movies and still have it connected to the DCU. I thought the whole point of the DCU was that every project will be stylistically and tonally unique but will still all exist within the same continuity? I don’t see how The Batman can’t fit under this criteria.
As long as no fantastical stuff appears in the solo Batman movie, it would be fine. Clayface, Poison Ivy, Polka Dot Man, and Bat-Mite can stay for just crossovers. Robert Pattinson should remain in his own universe; Batman movies have always been better grounded; the current Superman movie clearly isn’t that.
Maybe they need to start adding Matt Reeves’ name to the title if they keep his universe isolated. Like “Matt Reeves’ : The Batman 2” so you know what you’re watching.
