I love that when Electra, Blade, and Gambit come in, you’re cheering and laughing, but when Laura (X23) enters, there’s hushed, reverent whispers. Deadpool and Wolverine is the real Multiverse of Madness. I never thought I’d see the day that Wesley Snipes and Hugh Jackman would share a screen together. Snipes still got that ‘Blade’ screen presence and ice cold aura.
The first three are fun cameos, reminders of old films. In Gambit’s case, an in-joke about a movie stuck in development due to inter-studio wrangling—but Laura’s appearance is a long-ago promise being finally made good. It’s a crime that she hadn’t had a movie of her very own long before now!
Wolverine and Laura (X23)‘s conversation was great. I’m sure they’ll bring her back for either Doomsday or Secret Wars. Or maybe they’ll make her the MCU’s Wolverine when they do the MCU version of the X-Men.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the first MCU production to introduce X-Men characters from the Fox universe. It came out in early 2022. One of the very best visible introductions to this film was, of course, Patrick Stewart playing Professor X—a role he had played in the Fox X-Men film series.
The Fox Cameos in Deadpool and Wolverine
- Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau): Deadpool tries to sweet-talk Tony Stark’s bodyguard into letting him join the Avengers.
- Thor (Chris Hemsworth): A brief scene shows Deadpool in a universe where Thor holds a dying Deadpool.
- Henry Cavill as Wolverine: In a fun twist, Cavill appears as an alternate Wolverine in one scene.
- Chris Evans as Johnny Storm: Evans reprises his role as the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four.
- Jennifer Garner as Elektra: from Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005).
- Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau / Gambit.
- Wesley Snipes as Blade: Snipes returns as Blade, still hunting supernatural threats alongside other survivors.
- Dafne Keen as Laura / X23: from Logan (2017).
- X-Force Members: Returning characters include Peter (Rob Delaney), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus (Stefan Kapičić), and others from the Deadpool movies.
We’re still waiting on the full incorporation of the Fox and Marvel universes. This movie (Deadpool and Wolverine) is the most we’ve gotten yet in terms of intertwining the two cinematic universes.
This movie was a send-off to all the Fox and Marvel characters that had a movie. They did a great job. There will only ever be one blade. Then the smug (I see it as damn straight) look Deadpool gives is the best part of the movie! Gambit saying he thinks he was born in the void is a joke about the fact that everyone wanted Fox to make a Gambit movie and they never did.
Next year’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. I’m hoping by the time we get to Avengers: Doomsday that most of the Fox characters will be fully incorporated into the MCU.
