At the Connect 2024 conference, Meta revealed a slew of new AI announcements, including the new Orion AR x AI glasses, Llama 3.2, AI features in Reels, and a major update to Meta AI, including new voice modes.

The prototype of the Orion AR glasses weighs less than 100g and features a wide-field-of-view display and advanced features such as voice control and hand tracking. Meta has been in development for more than a decade.

Meta introduced Llama 3.2, the first major vision model that can understand both images and text. The version includes 11B and 90B parameters. The model’s ability to process information from various sources expands its potential applications.

Also announced was a new ultra-compact Llama model with 1B and 3B parameters, optimized for use on smartphones and possibly future glasses devices.

New AI features are coming to Instagram, including automatic video sync and lip sync for creators in any language, AI-generated content in your feed, “Imagined for you,” and more. Meta announced a Voice Mode. It is similar to ChatGPT‘s recent release of Advanced Voice Mode. Meta’s voice mode will allow users to use their voice to talk to Meta AI in Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram DMs.

Meta has released an AI virtual assistant. It can do everything from making a call to scheduling appointments, to sending messages. Using the assistant, users can access the metaverse and other digital houses conveniently.

The importance of Meta Connect 2024 can’t be overstated. With a new open-source model, an open-source AR headset, and nearly 500 million Meta AI users, the tech giant is once again proving its superiority.
