Why Christopher Nolan Won’t Direct a Bond Film

Cinema: Why Christopher Nolan Won’t Direct a James Bond Film? Unfortunately, Bond saga producer won’t give him the creative freedom he wants. He’ll probably make a masterpiece that will change the narrative of James Bond as we know it.

Christopher Nolan came very close a while back to directing a James Bond film. To be honest, if the deal should ever happen, it’s definitely going to be one of the best 007s ever. It could easily be a billion-dollar film. But I forgot, Hollywood is in the business of losing money these days.

Probably Nolan would like to make just one or two movies in the past under his own vision. The producer needs a new big franchise for two decades. But, no surprise why he hasn’t touched another IP is because they won’t give him creative freedom. Shame. It would’ve been a great choice to do a Bond movie.

Why Christopher Nolan Won’t Direct a Bond Film

Christopher Nolan has been deeply inspired by the Bond films and could lift the franchise to new heights. He’s the number one choice in my mind. He says, “My favorite Bond actor is Timothy Dalton; I think he’s closest to the character in the book.” Good choice. I also remember an interview where Nolan referred to ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service‘ as his favorite film. The man has good insight into movie series.

Timothy Dalton was terrific. I wish he’d gotten two or three more films. Dalton and Daniel Craig were the closest to the persona that Fleming wrote. But more so, Dalton.

Christopher Nolan says "My favorite Bond actor is Timothy Dalton, he’s closest to the character in the book."

Great artists almost always use “favorite” as against “best” in their preferences. They understand art as the subjective connection you have with a piece of work. But most people don’t get it. They’ll try and make what they think is an artist’s best, your best.

It’s a bummer that Eon doesn’t seem interested in working with Nolan. He seems to really want to do a Bond movie, and he would probably do an excellent job. They did the same thing for Spielberg.
