iPhone 17 features: ProMotion and Always-On display

Stay on top of your notifications, keep track of your time, and enjoy smooth animations. With the iPhone 17 series, you’re gonna be blown away by the technology and the visuals. If they do that, the Pro models are going to have to have some totally standout features if they want to keep me buying the Pro phones.

iPhone 17: ProMotion and Always-On for All

120Hz ProMotion and Always-On displays should’ve been standard ages ago.

Do you think Apple will ever go above 120 Hz displays? Maybe 144Hz on the Pro models at some point, but it might take a long time to get there. It’s taken a decade to get 120…no way they go above that. They don’t need one additional year to invent 120 Hz ProMotion for the base iPhone 17. It’s a company’s decision to not bring it to the base iPhone 16.

They’d finally catch up to Motorola! The Razr phones remain peacefully ahead. Then again, 165 Hz is just a nice-to-have feature. It’s not necessary, but it’s not undesirable.

However, Apple should consider releasing new models every 2 years or so to allow for major updates. I’m proposing a balance that can help consumers not have to upgrade every year. For example, they could have the iPhone 18 release in 2026 and then skip 2027 and release the iPhone 20 in 2028. Could generate more hype. But I don’t see them doing it unless sales are that low; then maybe 1 year off would help.
