Val Kilmer and Nicole Kidman in Batman Forever
Cinema: Hollywood actor Val Kilmer and actress Nicole Kidman in Batman Forever (1995) movie. The villains are Two-Face and the Riddler.
As a child, I was totally in love with this movie. Watching it as an adult gave a whole different appreciation to this and those outrageous designs and excess that only came out in the 90s and the variety of the set pieces that were never attempted before by Tim Burton when it comes to a performance that Val Kilmer brings and actually a solid relationship with Robin. Campy? Yes. Okay. But I think they were striving for that feel of a child reading an approximation of a comic book, from neon color grading to Elliot Goldenthal’s score, not just recreating frame by frame the graphic novel on screen.

It is also the very first Batman film where Bruce Wayne got a real arc and does not just exist to keep the Batsuit alive. On the other hand, I just couldn’t fathom how an actor with the caliber of Tommy Lee Jones managed to diminish the iconic villain role into a discount Joker, and Jim Carrey, who is brilliant, is just too animated for any adult viewer to handle: he is Ace Ventura in a Riddler outfit.
Hey @Warner, I heard Joel Schumacher’s original cut was a darker movie that actually completed the arc of Bruce Wayne, camp and McDonald’s toy value aside. Please, please, please make a director’s cut so this cultural masterpiece can be appreciated as such!
