The Near Miss: Captain America Casting in MCU

MCU: Chris Evans rejected the role of Captain America twice before he was finally offered the movie. Marvel even offered him the role without an audition. It was only through close friend Robert Downey Jr. that he had to convince him to take up the role, as fame would expand his opportunities as an actor.

It’s crazy because Chris Evans was done with superhero stuff after the backlash from Fantastic 4. Thank you, Robert Downey Jr. I can’t think of anyone else playing Captain America other than Chris. Same goes with Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man.

They did the same thing with Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr Strange. Turned it down couple of times because of the schedule but Marvel adjusted their schedule instead to fit on Benedict’s. Each actor in the MCU gave everything to portray their character. Equal credit goes to the directors and writers who gave these Marvel characters to life.

Marvel knows what there doing, they keep asking him to play that role because they know he fit the role. I don’t know how they do it, but marvel knows how to pick their actors for specific roles. Chris Evans has come a long way. To me, he truly is Steve Rogers/Captain America, just like RDJ is Tony Stark/Iron Man. Hugh Jackman is Wolverine & Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool.

The Surprising Story Behind Captain America's Casting in MCU

My initial reaction when I heard of Chris Evans‘ casting as Captain America was a mix of shock and fear. I’d only seen him as the Human Torch previously, so I thought Cap would end up as a parody type of character. The full trailer for “The First Avenger” changed all of that, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Chris has done amazing work with the franchise.

RDJ lives Tony Stark. He’s always been Tony, and he barely has to act in Marvel movies. Chris Evans is quite a different person from the character he portrays. He’s just got the right idea about the character. His looks fit like a glove for the American hero with a heart of gold.
